New Constitution on December 10th

The solemn act will be headed by President Leonel Fernandez
The Assembly will meet the 16th
SANTO DOMINGO. The new Constitution already has a date for its proclamation: 10 December 2009, the World Human Rights Day. On that day, during a solemn act at the National Assembly, President Leonel Fernandez will officially proclaim the new Constitution.

The date was agreed to with the Chief of State who will be leaving the country at the end of this month and that forced the change from the 25 November date that was originally set.

Military and civilian authorities together with members of the diplomatic corps and religious figures will be among the invitees to the ceremony.

The information was offered by the president of the Revisory Assembly, Reinaldo Pared Perez, who explained that the activity will be divided into two parts, one in the morning where the complete text of the reformed Constitution as approved by the Commission of Verification and Auditing will be read.

Then, during the afternoon, the Chief of State will be received together with the other invitees to bring the work to a close.

Pared Perez, explained to the senators that the date of 10 December was suggested by the deputy from the Dominican Liberation Party, Minou Tavarez Mirabal, who pointed out that was the International Human Rights Day.

The Assembly was convened for Monday 16 November to hear the report from the Commission of Verification and Auditing regarding the second reading of the project and to approve eleven acts of the sessions that remain to be approved.
